ShantyTowns
Shacks, like this one, are built on piles of garbage, known as shantytowns. Little houses built from refuse scavenged from the garbage site in which they live. Shacks built from materials such as plywood, plastic, and metal are considered as "homes" for these impoverished folks.
The innumerable dangers that these people are susceptible each day are a frightening. Since these shacks are built "not up to code" they have no running water, no sanitation, and no promise of a policeman or a firefighter to rescue them from an inevitable disaster. The health effects that these shanty towns have upon its residents are numerous. Unclean water can produce symptoms of dysentery, such as severe diarrhea, vomiting and intestinal inflammation. In truth, these people will probably not be taken care of and may die in the shanty towns. There is not much the government can do for their situation. Perhaps, there is not much that they want to do.
